Surge/Day Bins
Surge/Day Bins
Our extensive line of stationary material holding bins are ideal for storing both raw materials and finished product. Ergonomically designed in a variety of standard and custom shapes, bins are available in various sizes to maximize and conserve handling time, space and energy. We also offer a complete line of components and accessories to complement your specific in-plant needs. Construction materials include carbon, stainless steel and aluminum. Specialty Agitator Bins are designed to enable difficult to flow materials (conducive to bridging and rat-holing) to be moved effectively.
REQUEST A QUOTE Find a rep- A surge or day bin is useful when material needs to be temporarily stored close to production equipment before it enters the next stage of the process. This provides a readily available supply of raw material or temporary storage for finished product.
- A surge bin provides intermediate storage between material handling and processing equipment. Maintaining material near the point of use can help provide a more consistent supply to downstream equipment as production demand changes.
- A surge bin is typically used as intermediate, in-plant storage near the production process, while a bulk storage silo is intended for larger quantities of material. Surge bins can help bridge material movement between storage, conveying, and processing operations.
- Bridging occurs when material forms an obstruction above the discharge, while rat-holing occurs when material flows through a central channel and leaves material along the sides. Both conditions can interfere with consistent material discharge and create challenges when handling difficult-to-flow materials.
- An agitator bin can be useful when material is prone to bridging, rat-holing, or inconsistent discharge. Agitation helps promote material movement toward the discharge so difficult-to-flow materials can be handled more effectively.
- Processors should consider material characteristics, required storage capacity, material flow behavior, discharge method, available space, and how the bin will connect with upstream and downstream material handling equipment.
